Whats a mestizo, or a filipino mestizo?

I thought mestizo was like, a native person of any country, mixed with spaniard. But why is it that chinese/filipinos are considered mestizos? that doesnt make sense. its pretty much saying that any type of mixed filpinos are mestizos.
